Powered by DI Technology
Advanced Desalination Architecture
Hydra’s De-Ionization (DI) system is a compact desalination architecture designed to combine front-end pretreatment, low-pressure desalination, and final water polishing in a single modular flow path.
The system is being developed to address three key weaknesses in conventional desalination:
· High Energy Intensity
· Vulnerability to Feedwater Contamination and Fouling
· Operational Burden of Large, Centralized Systems
Hydra’s current development focus is to validate the system under real seawater conditions in Qatar and build the technical and commercial basis for regional scale-up.
Integrated Pretreatment
Front-end handling for oil, metals, and selected contaminants before the core desalination stage.
Low-Pressure DI Core
A proprietary desalination architecture designed to reduce energy demand versus legacy systems.
Water Quality Conditioning
Downstream polishing designed to support low-TDS output and stable operational performance.
Water & Desalination Outlook
Water security is now a strategic priority across Qatar and MENA-driving demand for lower-energy, more resilient desalination systems.
Global Water Stress
2.2 billion people lack safely managed drinking water. Nearly half the world faces severe water scarcity at least part of the year.
MENA: Highest Pressure
The most water-stressed region globally. Water availability projected to fall below critical thresholds by 2030.
Fast-Growing
Market
USD 2.53B desalination equipment market (2024). Forecast to reach USD 4.93B by 2030 (11.8% CAGR).
Qatar: Strategic
Dependence
Potable water relies overwhelmingly on desalination. Limited renewable groundwater availability.
Desalination Paradox:
Desalination secures water supply—but remains energy-intensive, costly, and environmentally constrained due to brine discharge and carbon intensity.
Policy Alignment:
Qatar National Vision 2030 emphasizes resource efficiency, innovation, and resilient infrastructure—making sustainable desalination a strategic priority.
Technology Shift:
The market is moving toward low-energy, modular, and ESG-aligned systems as operators face increasing pressure on emissions, brine management, and operational efficiency.
Market Opportunity
Hydra enters at the intersection of a large global market, the world’s most water-stressed region, and one of the fastest-growing desalination markets in MENA.
-

Global Market
The global desalination technologies market is projected at USD 30.19B in 2026, reaching USD 59.34B by 2034.
-

Regional Relevance
Middle East & Africa represented 51.41% of the global market in 2025, making it the world’s largest desalination region.
-

Qatar as First Reference Market
Qatar offers a high-growth, pilot-friendly entry point for validation and commercialization in MENA.
